Comedy

Comedy by far is my favorite movie genre. Comedies include jokes, pranks, and satire that are sure to bring a smile onto any one's face. In most comedies there is usually a pair of characters in which one is serious and the other is playful like Barney and Andy in the Andy Griffith Show. In other cases there is a comical character in a group of characters with many different types of personalities like Screech in Saved by the Bell. Comedies are full of many kinds of characters that together bring out the best laughs.
Most comedies begin with a problem such as a missing character or ending up on a deserted island. As the plot unfolds the characters go through many obstacles. These obstacle and how the characters face them is what makes the movie a comedy. The problem is usually resolved and the movie ends on a comical note.
Some of the best movies that fit this genre are I Love Lucy, The Little Rascals, and Rush Hour. In my opinion the older the movie or show the genuinely funny they are. The jokes in these movies capture the watchers attention and are "watcher friendly".Some of the worst movies in this genre are The Wedding Planner, Napoleon Dynamite, and t.v. shows such as How I Met Your Mother and Two and a Half Men. Most modern day comedies include foul language and sexual innuendos which makes them more crude than comical. Some "comedies" such as The Importance of Being Earnest are too serious to be funny. Then there are wonderful comedies like George of the Jungle that fail when the second film has no original characters and a dull sense of humor.

  1. You think that THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING ERNEST is too serious to be funny? Ok. I, personally, can't stop laughing at the image of the guy telling his friend not to eat the cucumber sandwiches because they're for his aunt (I think) who is coming to visit while he himself proceeds to eat every cucumber sandwich on the platter! Then he yells at his butler for not having any cucumber sandwiches! Hilarious! To me, anyway.....

I honestly don't know why Disney even bothered with a 2nd GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE. Total crap. Not funny by any stretch of the imagination!

The best comedies are definitely the ones that can make me laugh out loud, even though that's not a very difficult thing to do!!!!!

  2. I think you are absolutely right when describing the plot of a comedy. While reading your post I actually invisioned the movie Due Date in my head. You basically described exactly what happens. There is Robert Downey Jr.(the serious one) and that other guy who is just absollutely hilarious. The two guys get kicked off a plane because they use words such as terrorist and bomb and they spend the entire movie trying to get back to California where Robert Downey Jr.'s wife is about to have a baby. I wont spoil the rest of it but it is absolutely hilarious. I do have to disagree with you on a few points. First of all the Ernest movies kept me laughing througout my whole childhood, so I do not understand how they could portrayed as serious. I also love watching Two and a Half Men. It may be crude at points but sometimes crudeness is necessary in comedy. After all, where would we be without our sense of humor? It is not meant to offend anyone. I respect your opinion and enjoyed your post.
